Press Manor – 5th February 2020February 18, 2020
Although I regularly fish the larger reservoirs, localish small waters are always fun to try and so I gave Press Manor a go today.
Press Manor Fishing Lake is 5.5 acres and is well stocked with Rainbow, Brown, Blue and Brook Trout. There are also get some natural Brown Trout.
The lake is set in beautiful surroundings in the Peak District, 5 miles north of Matlock,6 miles South of Chesterfield with good connections to the Junction 28 or 29 of the M1.
The average stock size is 2lb. The biggest fish this year was 13lb 4 0z caught by Alec Urquhart from Hinckley.
The venue is mainly bank fishing and has 4 boats, good access, parking and is disabled person friendly.
They have a fishing lodge, offering hot food and drinks and have recently completed the new Men’s and Ladies toilet unit.
There is a real community spirit there and as a result, lots of incredibly helpful advice from everyone, including Bernie (pictured below) who runs it.
It was cold and very hard work today, but everyone on the lake appeared to catch with fish ranging from 1/2lb to 12lb.
Methods working included cats whiskers pulled very, very slowly through the water on intermediate line or static buzzers and small lures under a bung on floating line. The most buzzers on the day were the Black Biot and the most successful lure being the black and olive cats whisker. The dam wall seemed to be the most prolific area for catching.
Prices start at £15.50 for catch and release and visitors should be aware that boobies and barbed hooks are banned. You also can’t take a fish bigger than 4lb on a kill ticket to preserve the clonkers roaming about.
I’ll definitely be back and thanks again to those who helped with suggestions for tactics, especially Bernie.
Winter Opening Times: 8.30a.m. until Dusk.
